Round Robin #1

Michael Young had another full day planned with some pretty complex logistics for another Pilots n Paws rescue. First was to round up a bunch of college students early in the morning – good luck with that!

Yep, too early for college students.

The first leg of the flight went from Potomac Airfield (VKX) in the DC area to Roxboro, NC (TDF) to pick up Ace. Next leg was off to Greensboro, NC (GSO) to pick up black lab/ border collie mix puppy just starting off life at 3 months and 6 lbs.

Not done yet with stops in North Carolina, the Columbia put down in Greenville (PGV) to welcome onboard a surrogate mom and the pups she is nursing. Whew, all the passengers have been retrieved.  (Why would the momma dog do this? Well, check this video out.)

Of course, there’s no reason to fly back directly to DC. Mike and crew made a stop in Tappahannock, VA (XSA) to make sure the lab mix puppy found his forever home. With that pitstop completed, it was back to Potomac to transfer the mom, pups, and Ace to Brad’s Cessna 182.

Mike completed his logistical hurdles for the day, and then it was Brad’s turn. The first was to meet up with Dave (another George Mason student and recent private pilot) and load the group of dogs. Their trip started with a leg to New Castle, DE (DQO) to drop off the mom and pups. With those goodbyes said, Brad & David continued their round-robin with a trp to Wings Field (LOM) to introduce Ace to his new owner. A final leg home back to Pontomac and the day was done.
