First Time is the Charm

Four Puppy Mill Cocker Spaniels in rescue (Tails of Hope Dog Rescue) flew from the Fayette County Airport, TN to Columbus, Ohio to meet their new rescue (Columbus Cocker Rescue).

Requirements: Just Volunteers and Pups

Mark Dickens, pilot of Memphis, TN signed up in December 2011 to fly for Pilots N Paws. He immediately volunteered to fly his first mission transporting these dogs to Louisville, KY in hopes we could get another volunteer to fly the remainder. Russ Roslewski from OH, saw the post and agreed to fly the remainder of the trip.

These dogs would not have been in rescue without these 2 pilots agreeing to this mission. The mission was delayed the first weekend due to 2 of the cockers not coming in from the mill transport, but the pilots stood on “stand-by” until we had all dogs and were all ready for their trip. Great and wonderful people make events like this happen. It is a team effort, with a lot of people saying “yes”.

When I asked Mark why he agreed to do this, his answer was “because I love dogs”. Good answer, huh? When I spoke to Russ after the mission was accomplished – he said that he and his wife foster dogs whenever they are able, and flies for Pilots N Paws every chance he gets.

Thanks to Pilots N Paws for making this an easy format. This was our first time as a Rescue (TOHDR), to use this transport and we must say – it went seamlessly, without a glitch. Thanks to Mark Dickens and Russ Roslewski for your time and efforts to transport them, and thanks to Columbus Cocker Rescue for agreeing to take in these sweet, wonderful dogs. Always for “the dogs” !!!

Oh yeah, we're ready!

I hope that all of these dogs go to great forever homes soon!

  2. Update: All dogs are doing great and are up for adoption & looking for their forever homes now.

We are always grateful for the Pilots & Paws program, whom we’ve worked with to save some wonderful cocker spaniels who otherwise would not have had a chance at a new life. Working as a team, we can save those whom we can, together, and make an impact on the lives of these special animals. Thank you so much for doing what you do, we are all in this together. From our hearts to yours, Columbus Cocker Rescue
