Volunteers Fly Pup KCTV 5 News Kansas City
FARMINGDALE, NY (CNN/NEWS 12) – Airplane pilots helped relocate a puppy to her new foster home on Long Island, NY.
The 15-week-old pup traveled nearly 400 miles from Virginia to find a new home, all thanks to the dedication of Long Island rescue group Yorkie 911.
“For three weeks we’ve been trying to arrange this transport,” said Heidi Walker of Yorkie 911.
When Walker couldn’t find volunteers to drive the puppy, she enlisted the help of Pilots and Paws, a group of pilots who volunteer their time and spend their own money to fly pets to new homes.
Kevin Ford flew the adorable pooch part of the way.
“That’s what makes it all worthwhile ’cause you know you’re doing some good helping out somebody, helping out the pet especially,” said Ford.
Foster mom Darlene Macauley will spearhead the effort to get the little pup healthy, since she has a treatable skin condition which will require some medical attention.
“I currently have five dogs at my house, so she’ll be six. I have three of my own, and I have two fosters,” said Macauley.
For Walker and the rest of the Yorkie 911 rescue organization, the reward outweighs the effort it took to get the little ball of fluff all the way here.
“Knowing what they came from and what they’re now going to have, it’s the right reason,” said Walker
