7 pups and 13 kittens have the promise and hope of a wonderful future: A very special thanks to PNP Pilots MaryBeth, Doug, Greg and Steve

Thank you to Pilots N Paws Volunteer Transport Coordinator Leslie Eyster for sharing this inspiring PNP rescue story with us:

Our wonderful pilots (from left) pilot MaryBeth Wicker, Pat Wright (Greg’s wife), pilot Greg Wright and pilot Doug Weir and some of their newfound friends.

I wanted to share with you a very, very, very special flight mission that took place this past Saturday, June 23rd. We had 2 rescues, four pilots (including Pilots N Paws most recent new volunteer pilot Steve O’Rourke!) 2 sending parties, 7 pups and 13 kittens – all in one day!

Redford is a bagel (a basset/beagle mix) out of Onslow County, NC that was doomed to be put to sleep. If it wasn’t for volunteer Leslie Armstrong, dear Redford would have not made it out of the animal control facility. She was able to connect with Helping Hounds Rescue out of DeWitt, NY and they wonderfully offered to take Redford into their group.

We also had 13 kittens and six pups from Columbus County animal control that a wonderful NJ rescue offered to take. But the problem is getting them to these great rescues that we know will find forever homes for each and every one of them.
Thats when our wonderful pilot volunteers stepped up to the plate. And boy, did they!

MaryBeth Wicker and Doug Weir took the first crew in the morning mission to NJ and NY, which consisted of 3 pups and 9 kittens. MaryBeth and Doug both go above and beyond, each and every time to help us in North Carolina. If it had not been for them, these little ones would not have had the chance that they do now.

Greg Wright with his wife Pat (Happy Birthday Pat!) and Steve O’Rourke took the second crew in the afternoon mission, which consisted of 4 pups and 4 kittens. Greg flew down to NC and loaded up his crew and flew to Virginia. Steve, a new volunteer for PNP, flew down from Maryland and flew everyone to safety into NJ. Without Greg and Steve’s wonderful help, all of these little ones wouldn’t have had a chance. Steve, you are doing an incredible thing and we can’t thank you enough for your participation.

I can’t express to you enough what a wonderful cause Pilots N Paws is. Without your help, none of these homeless pups and kittens would be where they are today–safe, alive and with the promise of a bright future. What a blessing it is to have Pilots N Paws. Wow, 7 pups and 13 kittens have the promise and hope of a wonderful future.

To each and every pilot, please know how very much we appreciate all that you do. You are making a wonderful difference in this world.

A very special thanks to MaryBeth, Doug, Greg and Steve. Couldn’t do this without you. Thank you, so very much.

Thank you Helping Hounds! Thank you Leslie for saving Redford, and thanks to Cindy & Art Plante of Half-Way Home for caring for Redford during his time before the flight. To Sue, of Helping Hounds, thank you so very much for all that you do for the homeless pets in need.

A huge help to Silvia Kim of A Shelter Friend, for your tireless efforts to try for better lives for the homeless pets of Columbus County, NC. To Christin, thank you for all that you do. These little ones simply would not be, without your promise of finding them better lives.

  1. Hey! Great article except….Silvia Kim does most of her good for BLADEN County with an occasional foray into Columbus!
