Military Working Dogs To Be Recognized in Veterans Day Parade
Join us on Sunday, November 11th to see history in the making. The New York City Veterans Day Parade welcomes current serving Military Working Dog (MWD) teams for the first time and recognizes the history of MWD service to America from the War of 1812 through Afghanistan.
Attend the parade on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan between 26th and 56th Streets, or watch it live from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. (EST) on MY9TV, Armed Forces Services, or streamed online. The MWD contingent is expected to be broadcast live from approximately 1:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m – scheduling changes can occur.
The historic Military Working Dog float is sponsored by Pilots N Paws, Subaru, American Roll On Roll Off Carrier, and their partnering organizations. On the float will be veterans, including Purple Heart recipient Constantine Vasiliadis, veterans’ family members, search and rescue K9 teams, and AKC members.
Gracing the back of the Pilots N Paws float is a custom-made War Dog Stained Glass Award, honoring the most common breeds who have served America since World War II. The award was designed, created, and donated by artist and retired NYC detective Gay Ann Wayne, who was also a member of the NYC/FBI Joint Terrorist Task Force for 19 years, including service during 9/11.
Next October the War Dogs Award will be on display for public viewing at dedication events for the official U.S. Military Working Dog Teams National Monument at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. It will then be permanently placed in the auditorium of the Lackland Military Working Dog School.
