PNP Rescue Flyaway Update – Samantha and Her Puppies

Samantha touched a lot of folks on her way from North Carolina to New York. While rescuers are obviously very compassionate folks, lumps were welling up in throats and tears being fought back when they found out Samantha would be a part of the massive air lift of dogs through Pilots N Paws.

Everyone loved Samantha, a pregnant boxer mix. She was pulled from a high kill shelter in Salisbury, NC with no place to go but a temporary foster home. After several weeks, the foster sent out her own plea for help. Samantha was obviously pregnant, being kept in an outside kennel, and the foster could not keep her any longer nor could she have her delivering puppies there. Samantha had no vetting and was in need of TLC.

Tons of emails were sent and requests on facebook posted, and finally a rescue emailed to say they could take her and somehow got hooked up with the PNP rescue event. The foster, Alison, took her to the vet for her health certificate, a good check over, and x-rays to determine how far along she was in her pregnancy. Lots of people were nervous she would have the pups before Saturday’s flight.

Alison and her parents transported Samantha to the airport and spent hours waiting to make certain she got on a flight. Samantha waited patiently for her turn to load on the plane as it was quite chaotic moving 317 animals in one morning. The pilot on this life saving mission for this special mama dog was Lee Verrone. PnP’s founder was even in on the effort as she put her paper collar on with contact information and made sure she would not get lost in the shuffle.

Then, they all waited for word that she was received by the rescue and was doing good. The new foster mom in New York emailed to let them know she was doing great with everyone, including kids and cats. Samantha adored the young daughter in the household. Two days later, Samantha gave birth to 7 adorable puppies.

What a great mama she became with the help of the crew that took time out of their lives to help so many puppies have a chance at a forever home. The rescue believes they have an adopter for mama Samantha when she is ready to go.

The PnP Rescue Flyaway wouldn’t be such a huge success without our partners, Petmate and Subaru.
