Saving a Prince!

Somewhere on I85 south of Richmond, VA, Katie and Larysa transfer Prince Fenton

Although Prince Fenton a.k.a “Good Boy” had lost the use of his rear legs and was stray less than a few weeks ago, he is a lucky dog to crossed Katie Kaiser’s path. Katie is a resident of Alexandria, VA and a true animal lover. She also owns a special-need dog so when she heard about Prince Fenton’s situation, she rushed to assist and fostered him. She also arranged for the Hollow Creek Farm in SC to board and rehabilitate him. Katie then looked for means of transportation from DC to South Carolina so she turned to PilotsNPaws. On the organization’s forum, she established contact with Christophe Masiero and his wife Larysa, both active volunteers, who had already scheduled a transportation flight with their Cessna Cardinal for 2 rescue dogs going from Greenville, SC to Atlantic, NJ to their respective families on Friday December 21st. They agreed to stop in Northern VA on their way back to Charlotte to bring Prince Fenton. When the weather conditions deteriorated quickly, they had to postpone the flights to the next day. Then, with severe icing conditions, major turbulences and strong wind gusts up to 50 mph on the forecast for Saturday, wisdom and safety dictated not to fly that day. But this wasn’t going to be enough to delay the transfer of “Good Boy”!
Aware of Prince Fenton’s condition, Christophe and Larysa jumped in their car instead of their Cessna and drove from Charlotte, NC to Richmond, VA. They met Katie and her friend, Anna Bentley, who drove Prince Fenton to a rest area on I95 for a transfer. Several hours later, Christophe and Larysa met with Gene from the Hollow Creek Farm around Charlotte. Gene, a season animal rescue shuttle drive, took Prince Fenton, his bed and toys, in his van and drove him back to the farm.

There, Gene and his wife Nicole are attending to his needs while he is building strength before starting his rehabilitation and hopefully finding an adoptive family. He already visited the local veterinarian to treat his UTI and get some X-Rays which confirmed he has a spinal lesion. Meanwhile, the good people of Eddies Wheels in MA are working on a special cart for Prince Fenton which should come soon. He will also need to use a special quad clinic cart as part of the first part of his rehabilitation process during which he will learn to walk with the assistance of his cart. He is now known at the farm as Sir Barksalot.
