Private Flight for Fifteen
December 30th, 2012 we started our 25th Pilots N Paws Rescue at (3M5) Moontown Airport in Huntsville, Alabama, our home base. Weather was good getting out of Moontown, so we headed to Jasper, AL to pick up 15 puppies and 1 dog from Tracy Rayburn. There were 3 shepherd/ rottweiler mix puppies. We had 5 very adorable lab puppies. Tyson was a lab mix and so sweet but a big boy weighing in at 65 pounds. We also loaded 7 rottweiler mix puppies. It is so exciting to see all of these puppies in crates getting to start a new lease on life.
With all passengers loaded we took off for Jeffersonville, IN. We met up with Mark Kozak, another Pilot N Paws pilot. There was snow on the ground when we landed, very clear, cold and beautiful. We transferred all of the puppies to Mark’s airplane and then he headed to Chicago where he was met by a rescue.
It is always very emotional for these rescuers to let the dogs go, but they know the animals are headed for a better life.
All rescues are complex rescues, but they end up very successful. We appreciate how hard the volunteers work facilitating constantly changing dogs, destinations, times, pilots, and weather.
Unfortunately many others aren’t as lucky, and as you all know, the only answer to this devastating issue is to spay/neuter/rescue. All of these dogs are really sweet, and they deserve to be curled up on the living room floor at night not tossed out like trash.
