Pilots N Paws

Senior Basset Safe in NY

Polly’s story is all too familiar. Her owner passed away and the family could not keep her. Thanks to some quick action, Polly was found rescue with the American Basset Rescue in Niagara Falls, NY. The issue was that Polly was located in Durham NC. That’s when Pilots N Paws came into play.

Thanks to pilots Christophe from South Carolina and Mahesh from New York, a plan was set. Christophe would fly her from Raleigh/Durham, NC (RDU) to Washington, DC (HEF) and Mahesh would fly her onto Niagara Falls, NY (IAG). Christophe was able to get her to HEF on Saturday 2/2, but because of inclement weather, Polly spent a restful week at a temporary foster’s home in Washington DC.

On 2/9, Mahesh flew to Virginia and then transported Polly to Niagara Falls to meet with her rescue group. Mahesh braved the weather- the worst snowstorm in recent history, to help Polly get to safety.

Without Christophe and Mahesh, Polly would not be safely and soundly with such a great rescue. She would be at a kill shelter, overlooked due to her age and most likely euthanized as an Owner Surrender. Now because of our wonderful volunteers, Miss Polly has a chance at a loving home.

Thank you Christophe and Mahesh for your incredible help and your kindness. A lot of time and effort goes into the planning of these flights, in addition to physically transporting homeless pets to rescues. Thank you so very much for your help; we could not have saved Polly if it weren’t for you both.

Take care,

Leslie, Pender Co Animal Control Volunteer
