Remembering PNP Pilot Robert Joseph Albrecht Sr.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of PNP Pilot Bob Albrecht, who dedicated his gift of flight to transporting rescue animals out of his home state of Mississippi. Early Friday morning Bob passed peacefully after a battle with cancer.
Those who had the privilege of volunteering with Bob remember him as a kind man with a passion for flying rescue animals to new homes. Bob provided his special passengers with great care and took pride in giving them a second chance at life.
Bob partnered with rescue groups and flew routine missions to rescues in Florida. During one of his PNP transports, Bob flew a Border Collie to Deland, Florida where the dog began a training program to become a service dog for veterans suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder. This transport was very fitting since Bob served his country in the U.S. Air Force. David Maib worked on this rescue and said that when he met Bob and the dog in Marianna, Florida it was clear that Bob had already fallen in love with this dog. Bob had a very big heart for all of the animals that needed him.
Bob dedicated himself to recruiting more pilots to carry on these missions, and his family is hoping that some will take to the skies flying for PNP in his honor. Bob’s memorial service will be held today, and we invite the Pilots N Paws community to sign his guestbook and share their loving thoughts.
