Hey Mike,

We are checking into this, have been working on it since early this morning but apparently it is out of our hands. Google is not permitting the link through for mapping, for whatever reason. We have sent them an email but who knows if they will reply. Meanwhile, there is another step you can utilize but it does take a little more time, sorry!

You can click on the list of pilots, volunteers or rescues that are under the mapping options. You can then take the username and enter it in the Members section (upper right of each forum board page) This will bring up the user by name and when you click on that name it takes you to their profile contact page. It's our only option for now until google corrects the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience, wish we had more control over it!

Did you recently upgrade the forum or how the KML file is generated?

It says the file is wrong: http://www.pilotsnpaws.org/forum/phpbb_rescues.kml

Mike we did not recently update the forum however the software is up to date. As we understand it, this issue is with Google Maps. They are using an API format and ours are generated with kml files that one of our pilots/software gurus created. Recently, the maps started giving errors like the one you saw but only at times, not all the time.

We have reached out to google as of two weeks ago and still no reply. Their API service is a paid service so who knows, maybe that is what they are forcing people to do? If anyone has another idea on how to keep these working all the time we are all ears.

We do apologize for the inconvenience and you can still use the list of username options and contact people that way. It's a couple more steps but it helps!

Ok. I understand the problem, and from my experience with google's free services the only support you are going to get is on their forums...

That said... can we just limit the results to the # that we know works? Like, restrict the date range down to 2 weeks.. or, make an east coast map vs west coast... or, one map with trips under 500nm and one greater?

As a pilot, I goto the maps and look for lines around where I'm flying in the next week or so.. then I click on them and research... It isn't practicable to find trips by emailing users.. not complaining (well...) but trying to stress the fact that I can't find a mission for my flights without the maps..

If you need some help on the technical side, I have a few web developers I could probably get to chime in if you have any ideas that need vetting or some coding help.

regards,
Mike

Can you shoot the code that is generating it and the API interaction to [email protected] ?

I worked with the API about 7 years ago.. but have some guys at work that are recently familiar.

Mike, hopefully your friends can lend a hand with this and Steve will be able to fill you in on what he has done to date. We have the board backed up and have access to a test server if you need one. Thank you for offering to see if we can get this working again properly!

Mike has reworked the Transports/Trips map, and it seems to be working perfectly. It can be accessed here:
