New trip map

Post by mikegreen » Thu Jan 23, 2014 2:42 pm

New link when viewing a request "Map this request - Beta" in blue.

Example:
http://pilotsnpaws.org/maps/maps_single ... opic=26336

This map currently only shows volunteers within the distance around the starting and ending points of the request.

You can expand those circles using the "Radius to show" setting above... working on a solution to show pilots/folks along the path..

No joy with IE8 here at work. All I can see is the US map; no route line, no volunteer pins. IE8 is from about 2009 or so ... so no great concern that it doesn't work with IE8.
Works great with Firefox 16, displaying route line, volunteer icons, and prompt boxes.
Very nice work; well done.

Dennis,
thanks - can you try now? I added a tag to the page that *might* make it work with IE8.

thanks,

Well, now it is the other way around in IE8. The text box and legends show, but the map does not.
I wouldn't worry about it too much (except as an intellectual challenge). I doubt that very many people are using IE8. We only use it here at work because of some capatibility issues with a couple of pieces of client software.
Regards,
Dennis

Bah... Oh well. I changed it back.

Seems like many big sites out there end up building a completely alternative view for IE7 and IE8... yeah, my rec is for anyone who still has IE 8 or less to upgrade :-)

thanks, Dennis!

Works great with latest version of Firefox. Would be nice if one could drag the trip vector line to pin intermediate stops and see distances between initial, final and intermediate stops.
Thanks,
Lloyd

Looking good on Apple Safari. The two things that would be great for me would be to be able to "rubber band" the route for intermediate stops and to be able to define additional cities for pilots. I don't want to see all pilots along the whole route, just around cities or airports requested. Second item is not a biggie though.

I LOVE the new maps showing the radius options, the pilots and the volunteer fosters. What a difference from the early years for all of us who plan our flight requests. I can now do a much better job establishing a transport strategy before I post a request to the message board. THANK YOU!

Damn Jim, right to the hard stuff. It only took me 2 months to get this working - so I figure you should have a rubber band by, uh, yeahh....

In seriousness - the google maps API does have the ability to do that.. just takes a bit to hook it into an airport and such. I've been in contact with the good folks at http://maps.avnwx.com/ (awesome aviation wx maps!) and going to try to use some of their technology.

I put it on my list: https://github.com/mikegreen/pnp_maps/issues/13

thanks for the feedback,

Mike
