I think this is good idea. On "Pilot Talk" there was some discussion about getting to know other like-minded pilots. I think a flyin (to include rescues to and/or from the meeting spot would be perfect) would serve well for this. An added benefit would be to spread the word about PnP. I'm sure if a 'swarm' of aircraft descended on an airport, the local pilots would be inquiring about it. They may not have heard of PnP and this would be a great opportunity to promote it and get more pilots involved.

Go for it pilots!! We have been discussing having a fly in in the Carolinas for PNP pilots and rescues welcome as well. In June, there is a breakfast club fly in at a private airport outside of Greenville, SC. Since the majority of our transport requests come from the south, this might be a great way to not only meet each other, but show other pilots what we do and transport some animals at the same time.

Thoughts?

I will echo Debi's comments. Also a pilot has previously suggested the formation of PNP "chapters", perhaps at airports around the country.

Since PNP is a bulletin board and is not an organization in the strict sense of the word fly-ins, chapters, and other associations of participants of PNP would have to be driven by the members themselves. We just do not have the structure or manpower to help or coordinate those things. Debi is already buried in work so I would suggest that if any of the pilots or rescues do want to create groups or chapters or fly-ins to feel free to go ahead. I would see no objection to such groups calling themselves the "Southest Chapter of PNP" or an event to be the Southeast PNP Fly-in. If anyone wants to do something like that just contact us for formal approval of the use of our name and trademark.

I am new and doing my first transport this weekend. We go to Sun-N-Fun every year and that may also be a good place to meet pilots with the same objectives. Maybe just set up a time and place during the fly-in to hook up and meet each other.

We had a booth at SnF last year and had very little luck at getting pilots to register and begin doing transports. I think the secret to increasing our numbers is word of mouth and dveloping a critical mass where there are so many of us doing transports that others join in because of the benefits we who do them get out of it. And I am not talking abut tax deductions but the satisfaction of knowing the impact we have while we are pursuing our love of aviation.

This sounds great! I love the idea of "area captains" to keep things organized. It may even be helpful to have "lieutenants" at each airport to help spread the word at the grass level. As we get the hang of how to do this it shouldn't require as much time, which will be helpful, so posting as we learn is important.

I suggest posting these under "Pilot Talk" for now, and if we get sufficient activity going then the admins can make a "Flyins Talk" section and move those posts over as seeds.

A "PnP HQ" fly-in would be awesome; sign us up when you have the date. And I want to know about the Greenville fly-in in June, too!

Hi again, all --

Another thought... If there's a way to work up a button/link to generate pilot (and even volunteer) email addresses around a given airport that would make spreading the word easier. I know I've seen some posts about the challenges of having phpbb spit out emails, so I understand that some of it could be tricky. I'd be happy to just get a list of addresses, though, to bcc: into my own email message. If I could easily send a note to all of the PnP-registered pilots at the airports near me I could better drum up interest in heading to a remote fly-in and better spread the word about a local fly-in.

Part of me worries about address harvesting and that sort of thing, but since the info is already there in the profiles and I just don't want to have to click a zillion times to assemble it manually this sounds like a call for automation :-) Of course, this doesn't have to be limited to just fly-ins, either; the first use that additionally comes to mind is looking for a partner for a leg since we have such a small plane.
