Advertising in local vet's office for funding

Hello Everyone,

I just joined PNP. After searching through discussion threads, I haven't seen anything regarding advertising at a vet's office or perhaps even at Pets Mart for fuel donations. I would like to advertise in order to make these missions easier on my pocket book as I am a young, struggling flight instructor looking to build time myself. These missions will be a fun way to accomplish my goals, plus I love animals!

So, in short, would be permissible to advertise under the PNP name and logo for fuel money donations?

Thanks,
Dawson

Do you realize that costs involved with a PnP mission are deductible as charitable contributions on your income tax return? Fly a lot of missions, that can be quite a sizeable deduction.

If you accept any reimbursement for a mission, you can't deduct that amount that was reimbursed. That complicates things, and could subject your return to an audit.

Personally, I don't accept funds from anyone for a flight, PnP or otherwise. I deduct the expenses of my charitable flights.

Thanks for the heads up. I read that information in another section of the website. I understand the complications with taxes, but I am a poor flight instructor trying to build time anywhere I can. I have access to a family airplane for this and can use it anytime, but receiving donations rather than tapping into my savings account to make this possible is more realistic.

Hi Dawson and thank you for joining PNP. There are very strict regulations by the FAA regarding soliciting for funds for fuel or any kind of reimbursement . Recently they have extended a few waivers to a couple of public benefit flying groups who fly patients however the guidelines etc are intensive and another animal rescue org that appilied for a waiver was denied. The requirements alone are extremely complicated.

As Rich pointed out Pilots N Paws became a 501c3 in order for our pilots to be able to claim a portion of their flight expenses as a donation per the letter issued to us by the FAA. All that is required is that the request for transport and the acceptance reply must be posted on our forum board under the animals needing transport section.

You can also find conversations on this topic forum by searching under the 501c3 topics.

We welcome people sharing about what we do at events and have brochures available for use. Our name is trademarked so we suggest contacting us prior to an event. Hope all this information is helpful and thank you so much for joining our mission,

Admin

Ah, ok. This tied it all together for me a bit more, thank you. I understand the legalities of the operation and how things could get a little complicated. Will get started with missions soon anyway, appreciate the help in these early days!

HI,
I'm new to this as well, and am in a similar situation. I am in a flying club, so the plane is pretty reasonable, but still pay $120+ per hour for flying.
FAA regs allow passengers to cover half of the expenses... does that work here?
Can the rescue folks cover half of your expenses when you fly?
I understand about the tax deduction, but am just trying to figure out all the options.
Thanks!
Russell

-UPDATE: I just found http://www.pilotsnpaws.org/forum/viewto ... ses#p53383 and got my answer.
Looks like it's a "No" on splitting the costs. Well, I'll still do it when I can afford it!
Cheers
Russell

I'm on board with the broke flight instructor.... I'm just a broke Private Pilot, I'm a 27 y/o Purple Heart Vet and I barely make it month to month with my VA money. The two things that help me the most, with all of the problems that come from being wounded in combat, are my black lab, and flying, lol. I would GLADLY give my life for my dog because I love him so much. Crazy? Maybe, but he has saved my life in some ways. It breaks my heart that I can't help as much as I would like. I have nothing to do accept fly and help all those babies that need rescuing but I simply can not afford to do more than a short flight every month or two :( There's gotta be something that can be done about funding. Dogs are people too, and it would mean so much to help the ones in need just by flying. I don't brag but Ill say this: I'm a damn good pilot and I've been flying all my life. I would give anything to help, so if someone wants to help and has a plane, but just doesn't have the time, ill gladly volunteer to fly and spend what little money i have on fuel to help. i have PIC time in quite a few types of airplanes. I'm in Shreveport LA, my cell number is 318-404-8744. Thanks - Nate

low on funds for transports

Try to find another pilot whom you can fly with. Each one of you flies one leg. That way you are sort of sharing the cost of the transport. Great way to get some "free" hood time too.

I believe the Amelia Earhart foundation occasionally offers scholarships for charitable flights, including Pilots n Paws. Might be worth looking into if you are building toward a career as a pilot or another rating.
