Additional info/situation:

"Hope" has had a dreary life thus far. When she was seized as part of a 47-dog fighting ring by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff, it was obvious what she was used for. She is covered in scars from old wounds and has lost vision in one eye and has limited vision in the other. She is also hard of hearing.

Fortunately for this seven-year-old, Last Hope Rescue has tagged her and is sending her to a foster in Rhode Island who will give her TLC during her HW treatment and help to rehabilitate her.

Hope needs to get to Memphis, TN, by next Friday, Aug. 25, in time to catch a 2:30 p.m. ground transport to R.I. We could send her Friday morning; however, the time will be tight, as she needs to get there by 1:30 p.m. in order to go from the airport to where the ground transport crew is assembled. Hopefully, if we send her either Wednesday or Thursday, the rescue can line up a foster to care for her until Friday. We are sending food with her to provide easy transition.

Hope is also called "Gummy Bear" by the shelter staff and her foster home. She has been in foster care since the February seizure date and is apparently enjoying just hanging out. She is gaining weight and her health is improving daily.

Hope will need a medium crate. Please help her get to her destination.

Thanks, Deb. You saved her having to go into boarding. You'll be advised of time to expect her, etc., via private email.

Trip is set for tomorrow (04/23), courtesy of Jeff Wall of Madison, MS, and Hank Williford of Olive Branch, MS. Jeff will come pick up Gummy Bear at ARA in the a.m. and take her back to Madison, where Hank will pick her up and take her to Olive Branch. Debra will pick her up there and keep her until Friday, when she will take her to meet her ground transport up North. All is well for Gummy Bear, who certainly needed to catch a break after 7 years of abuse!

Hope, aka Gummy Bear, has completed the first part of her journey! Thanks to Jeff Wall of Madison, MS, and to Hank Williford, Olive Branch, MS, for picking her up this a.m. and getting her to her Memphis foster, Deb Dunlap. She is the sweetest girl--wags her tail constantly. She did get a little car sick this a.m. but her stomach was empty, so not too miserable for her. Hank said she curled up on the backseat and went straight to sleep as they departed Madison.

Deb will keep her tonight and tomorrow night, then take her to the meeting spot Friday afternoon for her to join the ground transport to Rhode Island. That is indeed a long trip but she will have 2 nights to rest and recuperate and hope she takes this next part of her adventure in stride. We certainly all wish her the best and hope that Rachele, her rescue rep, will keep us apprised of her progress.

Our work is done. Nothing but best wishes to our Gummy Bear as she endures her upcoming HW treatment.

Carolyn
