A leg to the Black Hills would be better for me: if I fly from Minneapolis to Ames to Billings and back to Minneapolis that is 1400 miles in one day. How about Spearfish (SPF)? Brandi, could you pick this leg up (KBIL-KSPF) Could you go any further East? Due to weather we need to have some short time foster rescue's along the way if we can't complete the whole trip. The flight from Ames to Spearfish would be around 3 hours, so if the dog was delivered to me at a reasonable time in the morning, even with the winter daylight hours, we could get the dog to Jerry. I am ready for this weekend, pending weather of course.

Sure I can go further, east. I was thinking Pierre or Wall or in that area. Let me know a time and what you have in mind. I can only fly on Sat and Sunday. Thanks, Brandie

Pierre would be great. Looks like we have a plan. Just looked at the weather channel, a low from Colorado heading toward the Midwest so poor odds that the mission will work out for this coming weekend. I will try to change my work schedule so I could fly Saturday, the 22nd. Gene, you would rather fly on Sundays, is there anything I could do to make it easier for you to fly the leg on the 22nd if the weather cooperates? Want to meet in Eastern Iowa/Western Illinois?

Okay, I have plotted the above on AOPA Flight Planner and get the following:

IND to AMW gene 360 nm 4:10 (based on my c182 airspeed)
AMW to PIR xcflyr 325 nm 3:59
PIR to BIL brandi 360 nm 3:36
BIL to S27 jerry 284 nm 2:51 (routing through 23S)

Is this right? Flight times obviously reflect current wind conditions. These are long flights, especially considering everyone is making a round trip of some sorts. I can do my part in one day if I depart Lincoln (S69) at daylight, fly to BIL to pick up Jasper, then fly BIL - S69 - 23S - S27 to deliver the dog, then S27 - 23S - S69 to return home. This will take most of the daylight hours. Unless Brandi is planning on being in Pierre at daybreak to leave with the dog for BIL, there is no way we can get from PIR to S27 in one day. I'm not sure of the first two leg round trips, but this is obviously a two day effort if not three or even four. As I said, I can overnight Jasper at Lincoln (S69) which means I could return from BIL at a later time of the day.

What can the rest of you add to this?

PS - As much as you can trust the weather report, the 22nd & 23rd currently look good on my end. This coming Sat and Sun are somewhat questionable, but probably doable. I can fly any day that the weather is good.

Amy said she would drive the dog to Chicago which will shorten that leg. It will take me about 2.5 hours from Ames to Pierre. Brandi would have to overnight the dog.

Great. I an going to attempt to get Jasper to Chicago Friday night. Then Gene could pickup in Chicago Saturday morning and Brandie could overnight. Finish run Sunday in Montana. I will use the times suggested to put together a time table.
Thank you!
Amy

My wife just reminded me that we are singing in the community choir christmas concert this Sunday in Lincoln at 4:00 PM, so I will definitely only be able to do BIL to S69 on Sunday and overnight Jasper here in Lincoln.
