Ex Military Working Dogs Need your Help!

Post by margo walker » Fri Dec 04, 2009 12:10 pm

Good Morning all,

There are 6 ex-military working dogs who are stranded in Pakistan. K9Soldiers, Inc., a 501c3 group, is working diligently to raise the necessary funds needed to assist in bringing these dogs back to the U.S. I am asking for your help to make this transport happen. These dogs have been dedicated soldiers and companions and deserve to live the rest of their lives with people who consider them partners and friends.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, these dogs are abandoned in a shelter area with soldiers on the ground who are doing their best to find a way to get them "home". Though this is slightly off topic for our group here, these are still rescue animals who need to fly home to safety.

I am offering to match every donation that is made from Pilots N Paws members to the donation section of K9Soldiers.org. Please note on your contribution that this is a matching fund donation in connection with Margo Walker. Go to http://www.k9soldiers.org to help. Your donation is tax deductible.

Thank you in advance for caring about these military dogs and for helping to fly them home.

Here is a part of their story along with a link to the full story:

These drug-sniffing dogs are part of a Pakistan counter narcotics
program in Karachi developed with the assistance of the United States.
The Government of Pakistan is discontinuing the program and requests
support from the members of the US military to relocate and adopt the
dogs.

Pakistan does not have the support structures or culture for pet
adoption as does the United States. If resources to have the dogs
relocated to the United States are not found soon, they will be
euthanized. The United States government cannot fund the
transportation of the dogs since they are part of a Pakistan working
dog program. Enthusiastic volunteers from the US Embassy in Pakistan
are giving their time to coordinate care and documentation to the
United States for K9 Soldiers, Inc, a 501c3.

The cost for transport of dogs from Karachi to New York City is
approximately $2,000 each with carrier. There are currently six
Labradors in the program. The dogs average around 3 years of age.
