Some of you are familiar with me already, but for those who are not, I am a volunteer with National German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue living in Massachusetts. Through the course of events, I have become a 'go to' person for transports of shelter dogs via PilotsNPaws. Not only with my rescue friends, but with some of the pilots that send other requests to me.

I guess it's because I have been somewhat successful in moving dogs where they need to be across the country. Thanks of course to you guys :)

National German Shorthaired Pointer Rescue has requested that I assist in moving dogs out of Sioux Falls area. These dogs are a result of a puppy mill bust that occurred not long ago in that area.. there are 42 dogs going to all corners of the lower 48 AND Canada is taking 4 or so (Toronto area). Dogs were seized by the humane society and have been socialized and handled.

Texas GSP Rescue asked me what the chances were of getting 5 to them.
Proposed route (flexible of course)
KFSD-13K(344NM) Sioux Falls, SD-Eureka, KS (offered by Sam Taylor, thank you Sam! Date available not given)
13K-KGPM(310NM) Eureka, KS-Grand Prairie, TX NEEDED

DATES ARE FLEXIBLE BASED ON PILOTS AVAILABILITY AS SUCH, IF YOU CAN TAKE A LEG (even if someone has stepped forward, could you please respond? Again, there are 42 dogs seeking rescue out of this area)

These dogs will be wearing harnesses so that they may be tethered in the back seats, they will be traveling with health certificates (per D.O.T. regulations) veterinary records, food for contingency (on the off chance a leg is grounded if one pilot can't do the whole route) and perhaps a toy or two (we sent them to the triage center when the humane society seized them) Average weight would be 60# per dog.

Any thoughts or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Not going to be able to sleep if I don't try right?

As I do not always receive notification of mail here, please reply to [email protected] and refer to Sioux Falls-Grand Prairie in the subject line (I have a feeling that my inbox is gonna get scary these next few weeks!)

Thank you so much for your consideration and thank you for choosing rescue

I will fly dogs from Sious Falls to Kansas City if you have a foster here for them--KFSD to KOJC (Lawrence might be another option (LWC)).

Thank you Sam!!

Can you fit the 5? Obviously we need to harness them in.

I am in the process right now of compiling a list of TX or OK pilots that can meet halfway.. rescue does have ground support in OK as well.. depending WHERE of course. I can cc you in on that.

After more research, I believe you're right, that KEWK, KAAO, KLWC or any surrounding Wichita or Topeka fields would work..

Geographically Sioux Falls and Dallas are almost in a direct north/south line.. I should have used a ruler first lol

**sigh**
5 down, 37 to go.. 4 are going to Toronto.. I have NOT a clue how to start THAT!

I can fit five. Good mid-point airport would be Eureka, Kansas (13K). About 300 miles north of Dallas, fuel under $4.00/gallon.

GOOD TO KNOW, thank you Sam!!

I will amend the itinerary to reflect new field and send out request based on it!

By the time we are finished here.. your whole plane will be covered with 'dog stamps' lol

Liz,

I am based in Addison, TX (Dallas suburb) and I am available to help. I have worked with Sam before also. I am available most days but require good weather.

The biggest problem I see is that my cabin is rather small and two (2) dogs would be my recommendation with three (3) at the maximum. We could possibly find another Dallas/Ft Worth based pilot to do a two ship trip. Let me know how I can help.

Hi John,
THANK YOU

I see no problem landing the girls in KADS.. if there is another pilot based in that field that can go up to 13K Eureka and meet Sam and bring back the remaining girls.. that would be great.

I would simply for logistics purposes, like to land them all at one field on the receiving end, although, I can see who rescue has where and work on that end if need be.

Thank you so much again! Great to have you step forward!
Liz
