DONE 3/18!! Thanks Dave & Brian Special boy IN to CO

Post by deeogee1 » Wed Mar 11, 2009 10:55 am

Romeo is a very special baby Lab. Taken to a shelter in IN as a small puppy after being hit by a car, eventually adopted and now returned at 9 mo old because he has genetic retinal degeneration which will totally take his sight. . He also is extremely bow-legged that is a birth deformity but doesn't slow him down a bit. His time at the shelter was up when a lab lover in Greeley, CO who has another blind dog said she would love to have him join her family. He is very sweet and affectionate, active (despite his blindness), good with kids and good in the car. The shelter manager said that he is smaller than a regular lab.
Proposed flight plan (pilot preferences welcome) :
4 segment path: 914 nm
KTYQ KALN 189 nm
KALN K34 230 nm
K34 KEAR 220 nm
KEAR KFNL 275 nm [map:46201-80631]
Date is flexible.

I would love to help out on this flight. Iam based in Denver and could fly the last two legs to Greeley. I would have to make the flight on 3/17, 3/18 or 3/20 due to aircraft availability. Is there any way this could work for you?

Dave,
Thank you for that very generous offer. I'd love to make this work out somehow with your availability, but I'm not sure I can. I'll try contacting a few pilots and ground transporters to see what could be arranged. Have you checked forecasts for these days already? Any day seem better than the others?

Joanne,
As of right now, all three days look good, but the forecast is not very dependable this far out. Tuesday looks like it will be clear, and Wednesday could be a backup. Arriving at k34 early in the day would help me, but I know that may not be possible. Friday is always a possibility if neither of these days works.

Thanks Dave--I've emailed all the PNP people along the route to KC to see if Romeo can get to K34 to meet you. I'm crossing my paws. :)

Hello, what size is Romeo? I couldn't really get a good idea from the pictures. I fly out of OJC, which is about 5 miles from K34. I can't go all the way to TYQ, but I could go to MYJ or H19 to pick him up. Flying during the week is fine with my schedule. Basically I'd just need to find out if we can get him into a crate that I can accomodate. I prefer to use a 28L x 21W x 22H, if he could fit into that for my portion of the flight?

I could probably drive him to H19--depending on the day/time you're available.

Romeo is short & stocky for a Lab--78 lbs. When I pulled him from the shelter we had a 3 hr drive to Indy and he stayed in one spot--curled up on the floor behind my seat. I need to check if he'd fit in that size crate.

Thank you for the offer--I'll find out about the crate.

We're still trying to find a time & day that works for everyone to make this happen. Several pilots are able to help--but so far there are conflicts of one sort or another.

Dave and Brian have made this transport possible for Romeo on Weds. I can't thank them enough.....and neither can Romeo :D
