pilots

Hi - this is my first time with P&P and I looked at the list of pilots in my area. In the profiles it asks how many miles a pilot is willing to fly one way. Some say 0. Does this mean that they aren't doing any transports?

Hi Southpaw,
Welcome to PNP. That's a good question. It just means they haven't answered that question, so to me it means they will judge each trip and see what they are willing to do.

Best of luck,
Suzy

If you look in your User Control Panel (Under Profile) you'll see the field "Distance willing to fly one way" is used to control whether you receive automated notices when requests are posted within X miles of your airport identifier. These emails can come fast and furious ... setting this to "0" stops the emails. Over time many of us set this to a lesser number (which is not indicative of the actual miles we'll fly) just to cut back on the quantity of messages received.

Suzy: your response as a "PNP Transport Advisor" should have been better researched. As pilots, we are counting on you for accurate information whether it be for simple items such as this or transport guidelines and regulations.

Everyone,

As a reminder, at the top of each page on the forum boards is an announcement message that states:

"Attention All Members, New FAQ Section". We instituted this so that all new members could search for answers to their questions. The answer to the distance question is supplied under the pilots FAQ which includes a link for instructions on how to make any changes to that setting.

Early on, we did not have the auto email notification feature for pilots to use, or not use. The majority of all the early pilots settings are still at 0. As Rick indicated, pilots in "high request" areas might be overwhelmed with auto emails so they either set this to 0 or lower the distance willing to fly one direction.

It's also important to remember that everyone who is listed as an advisor with PNP is a volunteer. They donate their time to keep this board running more smoothly and may feel the need to give a short version answer until they can research this further. If anyone ever feels as though their question was not answered in depth, please feel free to utilize the contact forum admin option and ask. We all do what we can to help each other!

Thank you all for your dedication.
