Flying Mikey
Mikey is a year-old Chihuahua who needed transport from a foster in Houston, TX to Janet’s Ark, a rescue ranch in San Angelo, TX run by Janet and Neal Anderson. Before I could respond to Janet’s e-mail or PNP transport request, Jim Dixon, a pilot from Ballinger, TX signed up to fly the home leg. We determined that I would rendezvous with Jim in Llano, TX (where I recently had the failed magneto problem, which stranded 20223 there for a few days).
On Saturday, 10/4, shortly before 9 a.m., I departed Pearland Regional Airport with Burns Baxter, a fellow Pearland Regional pilot and member of the Bay Area Aero Club. The skies were clear and blue, the most beautiful flying day the Houston area has had in months. We touched down at Llano Municipal Airport, just ahead of Jim, shortly after 10:30 a.m. Jim was flying with Rowdy, a three-legged pooch, one of his own rescues.
After a brief introduction (“Mikey, meet Rowdy. Rowdy, meet Mikey”), Jim boarded them and departed for the home stretch, while Burns and I took off and set a course for home, warm with memories and the knowledge that we both had a new pilot friend.
