Midwest Flights

Pete and Karen Tobin had three more successful rescue missions.

The first was on September 21st.

And this big boy flat out did not want to get into the airplane.

Then after they landed in Waukegan, he decided he liked being in the airplane and wouldn’t come out.

One went to his forever home in Lake Delevan and the other went to a rescue in Wisconsin Dells.

Then on Sept 26th they flew to Greensville, SC to participate in the LARGEST EVER Pilots ‘N Paws Fly Away.

They were the 35th Pilots ‘N Paws plane to land. A young lady named Sue came in after them. Her commitment to Pilots ‘N Paws is a tad stronger than the Tobin’s:

Then, Subaru Corporation bought us all dinner – which was very nice!

Where Pete met Grace – a dog who gained national attention over a year ago when after surviving the gas chamber she popped out of the dumpster she had been dropped in to say “Hi! I’d still like to be adopted!”

And, uniquely enough the woman who shaped & formed my very young 14 year old opinion of what a woman was supposed to be, Pam Grier, is a very large Pilots ‘N Paws supporter:

The next morning came too quickly – and again, Subaru Corporation bought everyone breakfast. Again, thank you Subaru!  And Petmate provided lots of crates to move the pups.  Thanks Petmate!

Then they met the rescuees:

Then they started to load:

And these two rode together:

Then they launched. All together 75 Pilots ‘N Paws pilots rescued 488 dogs in a single day!

Unloading back at Chicago Executive Airport:

Then on the night of October 27, Karen received an emergency phone call. There were five dogs in Rome, Georgia who all had foster situations in the Midwest, but there was no way to get them there. Each of these dogs would be euthanized at the completion of business the next day.

Well, by now, you know what happened next – but this one gets even better in the amount of time it took to arrange the adoption, several pictures of the dogs were sent out and one of their neighbors in Galena agreed to become Forever Parents for one of the dogs in the batch – the white German Shepherd.

And for the second time a dog managed to break of its crate mid- flight:

And unloading at Chicago Executive:

All dogs went off to start happy new lives!

for all that you do I sincerely thank you. I flew a microlight in Hawaii. I know, I know it’s a toy, not a real plane but it was my wings. I wish I could be of help in your endeavors. Thank you again and bless you. Lee Ramsey

  2. Nice job! It definitely shows that you like to fly and to rescue dogs…no matter what the size!!

It’s such a great thing you do. I just saw your story, I wish we could take care of them all.
