Update on Krash
American Brittany Rescue News – November 2014 e-newsletter with Krash/Memphis’ story.
Meet Krash, ABR’s most recent Buddy Dog! Now known as “Memphis,” Krash has had quite a journey – and touched many hearts – since late September 2014 when he came to ABR. Thanks to an incredible team of ABR volunteers and his courageous spirit, Krash is well on his way to recovery and a forever home. But he still has some major hurdles ahead and with medical expenses totaling over $5,000 to date, he needs Brittany Buddies to help him through.
Krash came to ABR when a Good Samaritan found him suffering severe injuries after being struck by a car and took him to Memphis Veterinary Specialists. The clinic treated his pain and gave him immediate care for a punctured lung and contusions. Despite multiple attempts over the next several days to reach the contact on his collar, the clinic did not hear back from Krash’s owners. Unable to give him the additional care he needed, including treatment for injuries to his front and rear legs, the clinic would have no choice but to move him to a shelter that day. Fortunately, instead of turning him over to the humane society they contacted ABR for help.
Amy Dworak, ABR’s Tennessee coordinator, took the first steps to get Krash into ABR’s care. Within hours, ABR decided to cover the costs of keeping Krash at the clinic so he could continue to get basic medical care and pain management until his stray hold was up.
Once in ABR’s care, Krash underwent multiple successful surgeries to fix his broken jaw and stabilize his left hip. However, Krash had serious nerve damage to his front leg, and time would tell whether he would regain use of his leg. When he was ready to move to his foster home to continue his long recovery – and ABR had the perfect foster match for him: volunteer Gloria Gaffke. A registered nurse in Ankeny, Iowa experienced in fostering Brittanys needing special care, she was ready and willing to take Krash home.
On October 5, 2014, Pilots N Paws flew Krash to his foster home. Pilot Jim Carney escorted him on the first leg of his trip to Kansas City, and Pilot Jim Bordoni captained the second leg to Iowa. Krash handled the trip like a champ, and his new foster mom, Gloria, greeted him on the ground.
Krash settled into his active foster home right away, and he is truly enjoying life. Unrattled by the hustle and bustle, Krash enjoys the company of people and animals alike. He loves children. He loves the three resident Brittanys, who are very protective of their new foster brother. He even loves the grumpy old foster cat!
Krash is recovering well from most of his injuries. His jaw and hip have healed without problems, and his scabs are gone revealing his gorgeous auburn coat. After being treated for worms, he has started to put on weight and gets incredibly excited for meal time.

Unfortunately Krash has not regained any sensation in his forearm from his elbow down, and it will likely need to be amputated in the upcoming weeks. He has already learned to get around on three legs, so he should have an easy adjustment once he has healed from the surgery.
Everyone lucky enough to meet Krash along the way has been touched by his unwavering friendly disposition, despite his trauma and pain. He is a boy who does not give up. Although he has been renamed Memphis, his foster mom says that his most fitting name would be “Braveheart.”
Please consider being a Brittany Buddy to help Krash with his hefty medical expenses. To donate, please visit the ABR website Brittany Buddy page. Be sure to note that the donation is for Krash #4862 TN Medical Expenses.
