The “Great Aussie Pup Rescue”

The first mission was a huge success.  My 5 year old daughter,
Delaney, was very excited as it was a day of firsts.  She had flown in
the RV6 several times before, but alway in her car seat that was
safely secured just behind the front seats and always with Mom along
for the ride.  The day of the “Great Aussie Pup Rescue” she moved up
to the front seat and it was just her and Dad and 10 of her new little
friends.

The weather was calling for low ceilings around Jacksonville and the
pilot that was meeting us in St Simons GA had some low level
visibility in the Carolinas so that pushed our meeting time back to
the afternoon.  It was a good call as there was a wall of fog
that had just moved south of the St Simons airport as we approached.
We taxied up to the ramp and my daughter called out, I see the
puppies.  The were all frockling in the grass just in front of the FBO
main door and all you could see were wagging little tails.

The staff of the FBO were involved at every level.  Getting water, providing a
golf cart to transport them from the planes to the grass and back
again.  We fueled up and then began loading the puppies into three
crates.  Delaney decided that she would hold one of the pups that she
named Elmo for the flight back to FL so Elmo was the last to load up
and had a front row seat on her lap.  We began to taxi out for
departure and the back seat passengers all stopped their whimpering
and settled in for the hour and 20 minute flight south.

We arrived at Venice 20 minutes before dark and we began the process
of unloading.  The pups were excited to be back in the grass and eager
for a drink of water.  Thanks again to the staff of the FBO, water and
a large bowl were soon placed on the front step and 10 little pups
soon emptied it.

What a great day!  I got to spend special time with my daughter.  We
made a difference in 10 little lives and wrote another chapter in the
book of life’s lessons.  Thank you for the opportunity to participate
in PNP.  We are looking forward to our next mission!
