Another successful transport by Mike and Travis

Leonard Griffie sent in the following story:

I rescued Hunter (aka Klondike) from animal control a few months ago. He was on the kill list since he failed his temperament test with other dogs. I did not detect any real issues when I went to visit him at the pound, so I offered to foster him for NW Snowdog Rescue, Inc.

Unfortunately I was wrong and when he was introduced to my dogs he was dog aggressive (or just stressed in my environment). Long story but the rescue group, NW Snowdog Rescue, was able to get him into a behaviorist at Spirit of the North Kennels in BC Canada. With the help of Pilots N Paws and several others like Monica Marshall, Tanya Quaranta, Karin, Matt Parker, Al Magaw to name a few, he was flown first by PNP Mike from Medford, OR to Aurora, OR. They had to take his travel crate apart to load it into the plane. Once the bottom of the crate was in we put Hunter in then put the top on the crate and secured it.

Everyone was patient through the process. PNP pilot Travis met Hunter at the airport for the next leg of his journey. Weather grounded PNP pilot Travis so he and his family drove Hunter all the way to Medical Lake (a 6 plus hour drive). He was a perfect traveler for them outside of his crate. Hunter is being boarded at West Wind Kennels and will make his final trek for help on Tuesday. I will always remember PNP. The pilots donate their time and fuel and hearts for the love of animals.

I just read an article on Yahoo about the amazing rescue work you do for animals who otherwise would be euthanized. I’m a dog lover and we have two dogs, one who is a rescue dog. Dingo found us after he was abandoned and running loose in our neighborhood.
I want to thank you for your service and sacrifice for our helpless four legged friends. May God keep you safe when flying, and may He bless you for work.

an update on Hunter’s story – after a comparatively short time at Spirit of the North Kennels, Hunter made a remarkable turn around – exercise, boundaries, exposure to his problems, and love and affection for a job well done, was the basis for his improvements – introducing him to a breed specific job ( running in a team of sleddogs ) gave him a job he loved to do – he was so enthusiastic about his job, that we gave him a chance to run in lead, and for a novice, he did quite well – Hunter has been adopted to a home that will allow Hunter to continue his passionate interest – reports from his new owner contain words like “best dog ever”, “sweetest dog”, “a lover”, and “we love him” – I believe Hunter’s problems came mostly from not knowing how to greet another dog – once he learned how to do that properly, he was friendly and agreeable to other dogs
