13 yr old PNP volunteer pilot – first rescue flight!
From Leslie Eyster: We had a fantastic rescue mission from Wallace NC to Jacksonville FL. Rusty is a gorgeous, wonderful and kind lab mix that was a stray from the Onslow County Animal Control kill facility in Jacksonville, NC. Rusty is one sweet and loving boy! We do not know his story. I would love to know how he came to be at a kill shelter. Rusty’s luck changed when the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida rescue group wanted to help him. They had a space for him right away, so it was urgent that we get him to the group as soon as possible.

Chris (CJ) Price out of North Carolina and Lorenzo Largent out of Florida were a bit part of the team. I am very proud and happy to mention that this was Lorenzo’s first rescue flight and Lorenzo is, as of yesterday, the youngest PNP volunteer pilot at 13 years old! What an exemplary young man! We are all very grateful and very proud!
Chris, his wife Jeannie and Ryan took the first leg from Wallace to Charleston. Rusty quickly and very easily made friends with everyone and promptly rested in Jeannie’s lap the whole way to Charleston in the backseat. From Charleston, Lorenzo, his instructor Dave Sergent and Lorenzo’s mom Telma took Leg 2 to Jacksonville Florida. Again, Rusty made fast friends with everyone and rested in Telma’s lap on this leg. Rusty seemed quite at home in the air, as you can see by the wonderful photos.
Each rescue flight that I’m involved with is inspiring and heartwarming and astonishing. Each flight is a testament to the kindness and generosity of our Pilots N Paws pilots. We could not have saved Rusty without Chris’ and Lorenzo’s and their teams!
To Chris, Jeannie, Ryan, Lorenzo, Dave and Telma- Thank you so much for all of your help and your kindness. You are certainly making a wonderful difference in the world.

PS – It will mean a great deal to me for you to publish this, as I want to give accolades (to the highest mountain top!) to our pnp pilots. These folks always go over and beyond to help homeless little ones in need. While the world buzzes by, they are out there, helping. Without the recognition that they so deserve. I am very excited to have been a part of this memorable rescue flight, not only to save the life of rusty, but also to encourage such an exemplary young man to follow his dream to help. I hope he will continue. I have a feeling he will be part of many successful rescues. 13..The youngest volunteer pilot yet!
