Keebler’s Mighty Nine Pounds

The mission started with a request to move Happy, a Boston Terrier, from San Angelo, TX to Spring TX (north Houston). Once the transport was set, Keebler, a pomeranian, going to Lake Jackson on the southest side of Houston was added to manifest.

Weather wasn’t cooperating, and the transport had to be rescheduled. With the reschedule, Happy was unable to make the trip, so Keebler, at all his mighty 9 pounds, was the only passenger.

Weather on the morning of the trip was not flyable for the western half of the trip. Low clouds and a forecast of solid overcast did not make for a good choice. One of the rescuers was going out of town in a couple days, so pushing the transport meant a few more weeks of the pup not making it to rescue. Instead of flying, Tanya Card met the coordinator, Lori Clayton, in Mason, TX by 4 wheels instead of 2 wings. Keebler was not a fan of the process of being picked up, but he sure seemed to like it once he’s cuddled in someone’s arms.

The weather on the easter part of the route had higher ceilings with some areas broken. Scott Bennett was able to make the flight from Houston to Austin, so Tanya met him there. He brought along a couple friends and proceeded to work his way through the clouds and made it back to Houston safely.

Barbara McClatchey of Second Chance Pom Rescue was at the airport waiting for her new charge.

As all hope when involved in these trips, a note from Barbara arrived in mailboxes a few weeks later. Keebler had been adopted and found a forever home with a mommy and daddy and an older female dog who thinks he is just too cute and shares her snacks with him.

  1. I don’t have a website as I am cross poster for many rescues. We have used flights before, but definitely mostly always use auto transport because of the cost. I know the transport you do is mostly, if npt all volunteer and I just wanted to let you know how much I love the work you do and I will keep you all in my daily prayers. I have 501(c) 3 that helps folks and their families with addiction. This year God put it on my heart to start a “Canine Assisted Recovery Program”, where I have trained a nationally certified emotional therapy dog to assist me in dru1appreciated. Thank to for all you do and God Bless!
