Rescue Flight #49: Two (Owner Abandoned) Labs from SC
I flew my 49th rescue flight last month. We picked up two beautiful 6-month old 40# labs that had been abandoned by their owners. “Owner surrenders” create a huge burden for shelters trying to focus on animals coming off the street. In fact one NC shelter recently received 63 animal surrenders in just nine days. Things were so bad they put signs around the shelter warning: “Surrender your pet as a last resort, with the understanding that your pet may be euthanized today.” The July 10th article on the shelter can be found here: https://abc11.com/841325/
Thanks to the effort of Promises Animal Rescue and the Chesterfield South Carolina Animal Shelter, both dogs will find their “furever” homes in NJ. Groups like this work tirelessly to save these animals … our role as volunteer pilots is a (very) small link in the chain.
