Duck’s Rescue Story

Thank you Annie for adopting Duck and sharing his story with us.

On Saturday June 18, I came across a sad photo on a Facebook animal rescue site.  The photo was of Moses, a fifteen-year-old Italian Greyhound mix. The caption was this “SD Italian Greyhound decided he was not enough Italian Greyhound and left him behind. Out of time and out of luck. Can anyone share their home with this little old man for what time he has left? He is blind and has periodontal issues.”

I immediately knew I had to have this boy in my home. I contacted Angels for Animals on Facebook where I saw his photo and from there I was able connect with all our rescue angels that helped make this rescue available! My two-year-old son didn’t think the name Moses fit him because he thought that he looked more like a duck, and so from that moment on Moses became known as Duck!)

The San Diego County Animal Shelter is where my boy was; he was lucky to be found and lucky it was such a wonderfully caring shelter that gave him the extra time he needed. After days of many phone calls, emails and tears, I was able to coordinate with the wonderful shelter and our rescue angels in San Diego to get Duck released. Now to get him home?!?

Duck’s health was very poor. His teeth had such severe periodontal disease that his mouth was severely infected and the drainage was going down his throat, causing him to choke multiple times per day. His eyes were causing him pain, and he was very thin, frail and scared.  My next step was to find him the fastest and most comfortable transportation. That’s when I turned to Pilots N Paws. I made my plea and began emailing pilots, and that’s when I found my angel with a plane–Bill Archibald.

He wanted to help us!!! We needed another pilot to do the second half of the trip. We had a few offers that fell through, but Bill didn’t give up! He started searching for another pilot, and he found one!!! Miss Marilyn offered her kind services to fly duck halfway!!!

And so it was set. Six days after I fell in love with my Ducky he would be home all the way from San Diego, California to Lodi, California!  Ducky had 16 teeth removed when he got here, saw the animal ophthalmologist and received drops to help his eyes.

Annie and Duck

He is happy to have his warm home cooked meals, and spend his days relaxing on the sofa or in a bed 🙂 He loves his human kids Henry and Hallie aged two. He sleeps at the end of Hallie’s bed every night. He wags his tail every time he sees me—it melts my heart each time!

Thank you to everyone who made this work!!!! Thank you Pilots N Paws for your support and advice while putting this together, and to all your amazing pilots for doing something so kind and making a difference!

The air was parted and Moses found his new home.

Bless these generous pilots for giving their time and effort to help others save these of God’s wonderful gifts: “man’s best friend”.

And blessings also be to Annie for opening her loving, altruistic heart to pursue the issue and give “Duck” a loving home, and help for his health issues.

And may Moses Duck be blessed for the joy I know he will bring to his new family.

What a wonderful world! Stories like these are part of why God put us here … to take care of each other and of our world.

I work with Annie’s mother. Annie and her mother are kind hearted souls. If they could rescue all the animals they would, that’s the heart and love they have for their own pets and others. I also have a pet dog named Peanut; I adore him and he is part of my life. Yes, I spoil him. I know that Annie will love and give the best care to Duck! Thank you, Annie for rescuing Duck. It breaks my heart and yes, I cry to know that that a pet is abused. Please God help them all 🙂
