The Scale Tips in Tippi’s Favor

Anne Zeneski sent us the following story: Recently, a friend of mine in NC, RC, asked for my help in finding him a companion, a Chihuahua like one he had once loved years before. I reached out to my friend, Candace Engel in South Carolina who is well known throughout the country as a miracle worker in dog rescue.

I first met Candace over a year earlier when Andrew and I flew a beautiful hound dog she had helped save from a shelter in Kentucky. This beautiful hound, with tears in her eyes, was within minutes of being euthanized. With Candace’s help she was adopted by Joel W. in Wakefield, Virginia, who named her ‘Candy’ after the woman who helped save her life with only moments to spare.

With a little searching, Candace was able to locate a fawn Chihuahua named ‘Tippi’ in Branchville, SC at Bella’s Tail Waggin Rescue run by Tori Simmons. My friend RC had found his companion and new best friend.

Weeks before, Tippi had been found as a stray in Orange, California and was in serious danger of being euthanized when Tori Simmons stepped in to help! Jodi Reyes of Saving Graces in Orange, California called in a “stop” on her euthanization minutes before she would have lost her life. Sue Kelly Brown from Little Paws 4 Rescue pulled ‘Tippi’ from the shelter and took her to a veterinarian for shots and a checkup. Once ‘Tippi’ was cleared to travel, Daryl Cain-Sanchez of SC Animal ResQ transported ‘Tippi’ to the airport for her flight to Simmons in Branchville, SC.

Candace worked with Tori and RC’s daughter Liz to arrange ‘Tippi’s’ adoption and transport and the excitement began! Candace and I would meet in person for the first time during our year long friendship. Andrew and I would be transporting “Tippi’ to her forever home in Wake Forest, NC where my friend RC, 91 years “young” was eagerly awaiting her arrival. His daughter Liz, was just as excited about her arrival and her dad’s new companion.

Andrew and I flew to Orangeburg, SC, picked up ‘Tippi’ and brought her to her new family on Saturday. Tippi arrived at KLHZ with a welcoming crowd eagerly awaiting her arrival. It was love at first sight, ‘Tippi’ and Mr. Dickerson were meant to be and thanks to Pilots N Paws……another happy rescue.
