Flight for Service Dog Puppy…Spruce!
A few weeks ago, I was contacted to help a new person to PNP arrange a flight for one of their service dogs. New Horizons Service Dogs, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that partners trained dogs with the disabled. They are headquartered in Central Florida, but they had a 4 month old puppy, Spruce, that needed to go to Houston to one of their trainers. So a flight was arranged from the Deltona, Florida area to Northwest Houston, approximately a 4-legged flight.
The first pilot was Richard Kane (and wife Allison) of Palm Beach. He flew to Pensacola to meet Leg 2, Owen Bordelon of New Orleans. However, it was getting dark and the weather was not favorable in the Lake Charles area, so Spruce got to stay overnight with the Leg 3 pilot, Russell Butz, at his home in Hammond, outside of New Orleans. Spruce was reported to be a wonderful overnight visitor!
The next morning, Russell flew to Lake Charles to meet the last pilot, Daryl Tolliver. It just so happened to be Daryl’s first PNP mission! It was a good thing that the trainer, Jamy, was at the airport to meet the flight in Houston because Daryl’s wife, Kim, threatened to keep this sweet dog.
