Kimba sees Texas From the Air

A request went out from Jerry to those that have helped move his charges before:

This is posted on the Ride Board, but busy people don’t always have time to check, and it tends to scroll off the first page.  If you already know about this dog, please just delete this message.  Here’s what I posted a few days ago.

I’m hoping for transport by air because this is a route that’s very difficult to cover by ground, usually having to go through Dallas and many hand-offs.  Next week looks like it may be too rainy to fly, thus the push for the weekend.  Kimba was pulled from the Brownsville shelter and is temporarily being held by Etosha Rescue, in Seguin, until transport to RRR, Inc. (pronounced “rink”) can be arranged. There’s not a rush, but Kimba can’t become available for adoption until he gets to Celia and she has her vet check him out. He’s stuck in limbo for now.

This can be done as one leg or two. The flight(s) can originate at E70 in Sequin (closest), BAZ in New Braunfels (not much farther) or HYI in San Marcos (still not too far away). Destination can be Longview at GGG (closest) or Henderson at RFI (not too far away). If we do it as two legs, we’ll have to work out a place for the hand-off once we know where the pilots are coming from.

At the moment it looks like Friday will be rainy, but we should have decent flying weather all week until then, and the weekend looks pretty good.  Please let me know what leg you can do and what days you’re available.

Thank you for helping the homeless animals!

Well, Tanya received that message, but her 2-seat RV-9A wasn’t going to be able to carry the 70+ pound Rhodesian Ridgeback, no matter how handsome he was.  She reached out to a friend, Luis, who has been her co-pilot on other Pilots N Paws flights, and he agreed to help out Kimba.  Luis was counting on Tanya to set him up with whatever hardware and software (blankets!) he needed for a successful trip.  No problem, they just had to move the requirements to set up the back seat – tarp, packing blankets, bungees, leads, harness, etc – from one hangar to the next.

Kathryn and Kimba

Things changed a bit as the requester was able to get Kimba up to Luis at his home base just northwest of Austin.  Kathryn helped Luis load Kimba, and the two were off for their hour and a half flight to Longview, TX.

Ready to go

Once they took off, Kimba laid down most of the flight…sometimes he would get up and look around, maybe turn one way or another, but that was it.  When they landed, Kimba visisted every bush in front of the terminal building.  The pair went back to the airplane to put chocks on, and Kimba was ready to jump back on the wing.  It was like he was saying, “Hey Luis, where are we going now? I like this mode of travel.”
