Rescue Flight #78: Armfuls of Puppy Luv
Its hard to believe these innocent border collie mix puppies were at risk of being euthanized if left in a SC shelter due to overpopulation issues and the lack of local adopters. Fortunately, Noah’s Ark Rescue Project based in PA pulled them from the shelter.
After posting a transport request on Pilots N Paws, Robert Sperl, Dean Chenarides and I confirmed a 3-leg flight relay that was originally scheduled for Saturday 9/30. When we had to scrub due to weather on the northern leg, fellow pilot and DVM Craig Wilson of Bayleaf Veterinary Hospital stepped in to cover my leg as the 172 is in annual inspection as of 10/1.
We launched out of RDU at sunrise for Marion, SC, picked up the pups and were back at the field by 9:30. I loaded the pups into my car and drove to Oxford/Henderson where I was originally scheduled to meet Robert.
Fantastic effort by all and a special thanks to the ground rescues who work tirelessly to save these animals!
