Rescue Flight #79: Four Deserving Dogs
PnP Pilot Rick Gutlon out of Durham, NC sent in the following: Every dog we fly to safety on a PilotsNPaws mission has a unique story, and these four dogs on my 79th rescue flight were no exception.
Rescued by Rhonda Beach of Chances Angel Rescue & Education in Roxboro, NC, the dogs were headed to Pennsylvania after spending a few weeks with her incredible group of fosters. This is a common destination for rescues out of NC. Without mandatory statewide neutering laws, our animal overpopulation keeps county shelters full where more dogs are euthanized than saved.
Kloey, the beautiful 54# white Shepherd Husky mix, lived outside tied to a chain at a mobile home park. She was owner surrendered at a shelter when the park’s owner insisted all dogs be kept inside … and her owners just weren’t interested. She will now have the life she deserves as an indoor family member complete with a soft bed and lots of love.
Tom, the Hound / Doberman mix was picked up as a stray. No one came for him and his euthanize date was on the calendar. Fortunately Rhonda knew she had to help. It appears he also had never been inside a home based on his reaction to things like TVs, soft bedding, etc. which he loved … including kids!
Whitman and Noah are lab mix shelter puppies pulled at the last minute. They were thin and dirty with bare hair spots. The transition they made under the foster care of Toni Barrett is incredible!
After loading everyone up at the Person County Airport, we flew to Charlottesville, VA where we met pilot Kay Cross who covered the northern part of the flight. Thanks to all the rescues who work tirelessly to save these animals!
Petmate and Subaru are proud sponsors of Pilots N Paws!
