Mary Brooks’ Birthday Flight

October 11, 2019 (my birthday!) Todd and I started our 73rd Pilots N Paws Rescue at Moontown (3M5) airport.  Weather was great departing Moontown. We took off towards Walker county airport to meet Tracy Raburn. Weather was smooth most of the way with just a few clouds and just a little cool.  We loaded 8 puppies; 2 scruffy one male and one female, liter of 4 red mix puppies, and 2 black lab mix puppies. After loading the airplane with all passengers, Todd and I took off for Jacksonville Fl.  On departure, Walker County weather was getting hazy with a few bumps.  At 7000’ the air was cool with some clouds along the flight for the pups.  Everyone on board took a little nap for most of the flight. Another Pilots N Paws pilot flew from Tampa to meet us at Craig Air Center Jacksonville. We transferred the pups to Chad’s airplane and he took off to Sanford Fl., the dogs’ final destination.

As with all freedom flights, this one was particularly complex and chaotic (organized chaos), but ended very successful without much deviation or delay.  We appreciate how hard Pilots N Paws staff, the volunteers, and the flight crews work facilitating constantly changing dogs, destinations, times, and weather.

Unfortunately many others aren’t as lucky, and as you all know, the only answer to this devastating issue is to spay/neuter/rescue. All of these dogs are really sweet, and they deserve to be curled up on the living room floor at night not tossed out like trash.
