Bobby’s Exciting Flight to Freedom

Bobby is a small American Eskimo that was found as a stray and put in a shelter in Hazard, Kentucky where he had little interest as he stayed in the back of the crate.   Eskie Rescuers United knew that “Eskies”, as they are called, do not do well in shelters and decided to pull him.  Bobby was picked up by a temp foster, Christy Swanton, in Ashville, NC where he was shown that humans were good.
After several weeks, he was ready to go to R’Eskie Ranch (as we call Eskie Rescuers main location) in Randallstown, MD to get adopted.  Flight was arranged with 2 pilots…one out of Asheville to fly to Roanoke and the other flying in from Lusby, MD to pick up and fly him to Hagerstown, so ground could drive him to Randallstown.
Unfortunately, the VFR Asheville pilot could not take off in Asheville due to fog.  Only pilots rated IFR could come in or go out.  But Don Gates was IFR and offered to fly all the way to Asheville to get Bobby and take him “home”.  This was a very long flight and we are so pleased and honored to know Don.   By the way, this was Don’s first flight with PnP!!
He is our hero!

  1. It was a real pleasure arranging this flight for PnP and ERU. Bobby told me that flying with Don was a lot of fun and he is happy to have warm baths, good food, and lots of love at the rescue. I hope Don’s first experience with PnP will be the start of a long relationship of flying for them!
