Sarah Owens doesn’t consider herself a superhero. But for almost 100 animals around the country, she has come pretty close to being one.

Since 2009, the Olathe pilot has been volunteering each month to transport animals for the non-profit organization Pilots N Paws. Most often, Owens rescues dogs or cats from various kill shelters to be placed in adoptive homes or no-kill shelters in other parts of the country. Other times, it’s a more intense situation.

After all the affection pets have shown us, they deserve some in return. Subaru and Petmate are helping PnP provide that love and attention to our animal friends.

This is an amazing program with amazing people and pilots. Nate Larson and his lovely wife just flew a collie up to KC from Dallas. I picked up Princess Kelsie at the airport and then we drove home to Michigan the next day. She is a real light in our lives and I never would have been able to get to Houston, where the first Pilots n Paws pilot, Ken, I think, picked her up at. Has been a true blessing for our family that Pilots n Paws was able to help get this sweet dog to her new family. You guys and gals ROCK!

Nice article, Sarah. If you DO ever end up flying an alligator, we’ll definitely include it in the next book! Dog Is My Copilot (starring Sarah and lots of other pilots and rescue volunteers) will be published this spring/summer. Hooray for PNP!

    Sara,
Good job. Since, I often do flights to MO, I hope we meet some day while doing A PNP relay.
