Answered Prayers To Land Before Increasing The Passenger Manifest In-Flight!!
July 17th, 2016 Todd and I started our 46th Pilots N Paws Rescue at (3M5) Moontown Airport in Huntsville, Alabama, our home base. Weather was extremely hot but clear. We headed to Jasper in Walker County Alabama where we met Tracy Raburn.
Tracy had a very pregnant momma dog that was ready to deliver her puppies at any time. She was a drop off because the individuals did not want to deal with her or the puppies. Momma did not have a name so we named her Jessie. We chose Jessie because she was the previous owner of the airplane and Todd’s student.
We took off in very hot weather to New Tazewell airport in east Tennessee. She was not happy with being crated, so I sat in the back seat with her. Momma dog had a very calm disposition with me in the seat next to her. We delivered Jessie to Linnie Green in Tazewell. She will take care of Jessie, help deliver her pups, I was praying we would complete the flight before we would have to increase the passenger manifest in-flight! And then find forever homes for all.
It is always very emotional to let the dogs go, but we know the animals are headed for a better life.
All rescues are complex rescues, but they end up very successful. We appreciate how hard the volunteers work facilitating constantly changing dogs, destinations, times, pilots, and weather.
Unfortunately many others aren’t as lucky, and as you all know, the only answer to this devastating issue is to spay/neuter/rescue. All of these dogs are really sweet, and they deserve to be curled up on the living room floor at night not tossed out like trash.
Thanks to Kathryn for watching our dogs.
