Blind American Eskimo Makes it to Rescue
Around the first of November, Karon Stewart was contacted about a flight for a sweet, blind American Eskimo in the Calhoun County Animal Shelter,in St. Matthews, NC. that really needed to get to a rescue. This frightened dog was found wandering down the middle of a street, very thin and very scared. Eskie Rescuers United stepped up to the plate (again) and offered vetting care, a dental, and a warm foster home.
Samson, as this boy was dubbed, won the hearts of every worker in the shelter. Tears were shed by all when he was loaded in the belly of the plane. There was a local news crew that featured this rescue on the 5:00 news in Columbia. Rodney Tumbleston was the first pilot and flew Samson from Orangeburg to the Richmond area to meet the second pilot, Gary Schneider, who then flew him to the Eskie Rescuers Director, Heidi Ortmeyer.
It would have been very difficult for a ground transport to take this boy from the shelter to Randallstown, Maryland because of his blindness and his safety. If it wasn’t for the generosity of the two pilots, and the caring people at the Calhoun County shelter, and the outreach of the rescue, who knows where Samson would have ended up.
