Summary:

Zeus and Mika rescued from neglect, cleaned up and fostered by Vicki Phillips at Animal House Grooming & Pet Supplies in Absecon, NJ before their trip to Debbie Lipcsey who runs an English Springer Spaniel organization in Goochland, VA.

Zeus already has a new family and Mika is definitely in the right hands to be placed in a new home at the Goochland Springer Spaniel Placement Organization!

Full story:

A Good Samaritan stepped in to rescue two Springers from a situation of neglect in Pennsylvania where the previous owner could not care for the dogs.  MAESSR was contacted to help place these two sweet dogs.Zeus and his companion, Meeka, both came from a breeder in Pennsylvania and both have great dispositions.  Zeus is a handsome tri-color boy who is in good health overall and is at a good, solid weight.

It was reported that Zeus was never house trained by the previous owner. He was crated almost 24/7. They said Zeus would not potty on walks and was having accidents in the house.  Since his arrival at his foster home, there has been no evidence of this.  He went out in the fenced yard with all the resident dogs and immediately did his business and has been trustworthy ever since.  He has been left loose with the resident dogs during the day in the den/kitchen area and has been good.

Reportedly very good with children, other dogs, and cats, Zeus doesn’t seem to have an aggressive bone in his body.  He loves people and would be happiest taking walks, playing and sleeping with his special person.  He is a bit whiny when his foster family goes to work and it is not clear how he would do as an only dog when left alone.

With good house manners, Zeus has been allowed the roam of the main living area of his foster family’s home and has been fine.  He does not chew, dig, or destroy any household items. With the exception of trying to jump on visitors in greeting, he is very good with people coming into the home.

Zeus is familiar with the basic commands of “sit,” “down,” “stay,” and “no.” Training needs review and reinforcement.  He is definitely a work in progress as per recall. The last recall had him taking off into the neighbor’s yard to investigate. The previous owner reportedly had to chase him down. He is good on a leash and loves a nice long walk, though.

Recently groomed and clipped close, Zeus was a very good boy during the entire process.  He was a little anxious on the car ride over and sat in the back whining. So far he has been transported up to two hours on two separate trips and did fine.

Zeus is being adopted by a young couple in Charlottesville, Va who are excited to bring him into their a family.

Meeka is up to date on all vaccines. She was reported to have spay incontinence. However, her foster mom has been administering her medication on schedule and is letting her out in 5-hour intervals. There has been no evidence of leakage. Like many Springers of a certain age, Meeka has a few fatty lumps, but she is in good health.
Reportedly Meeka is very good with children. She does love her people and will jump up in greeting, so very small children could be knocked over. She is good with other dogs and cats. There is no known bite history or aggression. Since she LOVES people, Meeka would be happiest sitting on the couch being petted by her special person.

Meeka has been allowed the roam of the main living area of her foster family’s home and has

been fine. She does not chew, dig, or destroy any household items. Aside from trying to jump on visitors, she is very good with people entering the home.

Meeka is familiar with the basic commands of “sit,” “down,” “stay,” and “no.” Training needs review and reinforcement. Her recall is good but not 100% reliable. Meeka does love a long walk but tends to pull on leash.

Recently groomed and clipped close, Meeka was a very good girl during the entire process. She rides in the car very well, curling up in the front passenger seat.

Meeka was moved to VA to have surgery to remove a growth on her leg.   She had 4 families interested in adopting her once she is healed. Both dogs have been in my house since mid September and were bathed and clipped at my business.  They have lived in home in Galloway, NJ.
