Eleven Pounds of Fuzz from Texas to New Jersey
A tiny 11-lb pup was an owner surrender saved from being dumped in a high kill shelter in rural west Texas. Rescuers jumped on the case and found the border collie mix a spot with Husky House in New Jersey. Then the work started to find a way to cover the distance.
The first leg from Fort Stockton to Austin was covered by car. Christina fostered the pup overnight and fell in love with Duke. Duke became Prince during the first air leg when pilot Jason’s kids renamed him.
It took two days and 6 pilots to get Prince to his rescue. The legs and pilots were:
Day 1
1. Austin, TX (KGTU) to Tyler, TX (KTYR) – Jason K.
2. Tyler to Jackson, MS – Craig A.
3. Jackson to Tuscaloosa, AL (KTCL) – Barry C.
Prince overnighted with Pilot Jim. Jim had his 87 year old mom hold the tiny pup overnight, and she allowed the furry pal to sleep in the bed with her. She loved Prince, too.
Day 2
4. Tuscaloosa, AL to Atlanta, GA (KPDK) – Jim R.
5. Atlanta to Danville, VA (KDAN) – Richard R.
6. Danville to New Jersey – Al C.
