Husky in Honor of 11-Year Old Ian
Ian Dustan had already outlived all expectations. He had mitochondrial disease, an incurable condition that led to organ failure and the debilitation of his neurological system.
Ian loved dogs, and especially huskies. About a year ago, an all-volunteer group called Forever Husky, gave him a surprise. They brought a pack of huskies for an afternoon visit, and Ian even got a sled-dog ride on a bright blue, 3-wheeled ‘sled’. (Chicago Tribune Story)
The unfortunate day came in July when Ian’s disease took him from his friends and family. In his honor, his family adopted a husky. The perfect pup, Diamond, was found in South Carolina, and Pilots N Paws pilots helped deliver the lucky dog to her new family in Dupage, Il.
John Doig took the first leg out of South Carolina and met pilot Jan Puetthoff in Kentucky. Fred was the last leg (flying from Indianapolis to DuPage/Chicago) so he did the actual handoff to the family.

There’s Diamond, on her way with Fred to her new forever family who chose her in honor of their son who passed.
