Police Officer Corporal Leck Killingsworth picked up a 4-month old, full blooded female husky late one night off the side of the road in Kinsey, AL. He found her lying in a driveway, clearly in pain. She had a broken leg and her eye (he thought) was missing.
The pound didn’t open until the next week, and Corporal Killingsworth could not stand the idea of the pup having to wait at the maintenance office. Instead, he took her to an ER vet and spent nearly $4000 for her care.
Lacey, made it through surgery, and the vet said her eye and eyesight should be fine. It had a massive infection, but he cleaned it all out. He reset her hip and plated it so it’s good long term and shouldn’t be an issue as she grows. He feels strongly she will recover will no issues.
Lacey’s foster helped her recover after surgery, and the volunteers in Alabama worked hard to find Lacey a place to go. Texas Husky Rescue stepped up. Normally, a flight this distance would require several legs and having to transfer Lacey from plane to plane. Phil Rosenbaum decided that was not going to be her fate and that her ride would be first class in a Pilatus PC12. He turned a multi-leg trip into a non-stop, 3 hour flight.
The rescue’s report from Austin is, “Lacey is doing fabulous. The stitches are gone from her eye and we may get the splint off for good soon. Depends on the x ray. She eats well, and is over 30 pounds now! She is a very sweet girl and loves being with her people! “
