Maggie May gets her Medical flight thanks to Pilot Pete!
We’ve had another successful dog rescue.
Long story short… (Well, as short as I can tell a story) Molly Marino of the Chicago English Bull Dog Rescue learned of a 10 week old little Bully puppy in Manhattan, Kansas named Maggie May, who was dying because the artery that goes to her liver does quite attach to her liver. (I have no idea how that is diagnosed – that what I was told) (I’m just the guy who pointed the airplane on this one)
So, Molly being Molly found a vet her in Chicago who would perform the surgery that Maggie she needs for free if… there was a way to transport here. Which is of course when Karen’s phone rings. (I get the human calls, Wings of Mercy. Karen gets the animal calls Pilots & Paws) (Oh, by the way, we probably four human flights for every one animal flight. What I find amazing is that all people wanna talk about when we see them at parties and such are the dog runs.)
So, of course we’re gunna go get her. Wouldn’t you?
But that is a whole lot of fuel to burn just for one dog. The good news is that Carl Jones one of Karen’s life long friends and one of my favorite people lives just down the road in Kansas City. So, we decided to kill two birds with one stone. Log some time with Karl and save Maggie. (And Carl does get an assist for this one ’cause he put us up in his house for the night while we made arrangements to receive Maggie.)
Which happened in a Taco Bell parking lot. The brunette next to us is the Vet who has been taking care of Maggie
Thank you Carl for everything you did for us on this trip.
But, meeting Maggie was incredible! Yes, I fall in love with at least one dog on every dog run. Yes, everytime I say this is different – this dog is so fantastic. This time it’s different. I have no idea how I’m going to give this little girl up. Besides being beautiful you can’t believe her personality! She is just thrilled with life and an energy dynamo and the feistiest little girl on the planet! And a big time snuggler!
But of course every dog rescue story needs a rescue. Completely uneventful. We flew her from Kansas to Chicago without anything unusual to tell.
Oh well… the whole purpose of this trip was to get her to a vet who can save her. I gotta let her go. Yes, there’s at least one puppy who wins me over on every rescue flight. There was only one puppy on this run. I gotta tell you letting Maggie May go is gunna be one of my hardest services for Pilots and Paws yet. What can I do, Glenview has a law that you are only allowed three dogs per household. We’re already at our limit.
Oh well, I hope she has a wonderful new life! Isn’t she beautiful!?!
Story thansk to Pilot Pete and co-pilot Karen
