Pete & Hamilton

Pete & Hamilton

A beautiful fall day in the upper midwest made for a cross-country flight with a purpose for Pete Howell. Hamilton (Hammy) was a young Boxer boy out of Cincy that had some health issues and needed relocation to the fantastic rescue folks up in Minneapolis, MN. The logistics office went into high gear and arranged a multi-hop, mutli-layover trip, with Schaumburg, IL (06C) to Anoka, MN (KANE) being the last hop.

Fall Colors

We are past peak color, but there are still some nice patches out there.

A nice tail wind on the way down at 7500 and flight following from the ground at Anoka to the edge of the Bravo in Chicago made the trip quick, safe and effcient. Less than 2 hrs later he was on the ground at Schaumburg looking for Hammy.

Another RV airplane builder/pilot on the ramp came out to check out the homebuilt plane and say hello. He didn’t know it, but he was about to be a great help in getting Hammy loaded.

After saying goodbyes all around, Hammy and Pete snuck out of Schaumburg under O’Hare’s airspace – one of the world’s busiest airports is right there! – and set the autopilot for home at 3800 to stay below the wailing winds upstairs.

Hammy Takes Charge of the Flight

Yep, it was bumpy, but Hammy studied the radio chart and was ready to help out.

Hammy slept most of the way and was a huge snoring machine – his throat vibrating on Pete’s thigh even overtook the plane’s vibrations! He was a great passenger!

Snoring Dog

Man, Hammy can sure snore!
