Mirra Finds a Family in Indiana

Dear All:

We’ve had another successful dog rescue.  And this one was a “rescue” rescue!

Mirra was found abandoned along a highway in Mississippi.  It is believed that because of the condition of her emaciated body and lack of teeth that she was a “breeder” in a Pitbull puppy mill.  When she grew too old to produce puppies anymore, she was just tossed out of a car along the road.  (The vet believes that her teeth are gone because she gnawed them away trying to get out of a cage.  I think her owners pulled them so that she wouldn’t bite the male Pitbull or her handlers during the breeding process.)

A foster family in Mississippi was able to take her in temporarily but couldn’t keep her permanently.  She was being driven to her new “forever” family in Indiana when there were transportation issues in Nashville.  Now the local authorities in Mississippi are pretty harsh when it comes to Pitbulls.  If Mirrareturned to Mississippi she would be put to sleep.

Look at how emaciated she is.

Look at how emaciated she is.

A whole lot of dog lovers in Nashville were determined to see that Mirra made it to Indiana and were calling everyone they knew to find this girl transportation.

This is where ya’ just gotta love Pilots N Paws. 🙂  Eventually the phone rang of a woman who not only knows about the work Karen and I do with Pilots N Paws, but she happened to know that we were presently in the Nashville area for the New Year’s holiday and had our plane with us.  A little more karma:  she also knew where we were staying.

Now, I think you can guess the rest of most of the story.

But, here’s the part of the story you don’t know. There was so much ice in the sky above the Eastern side of Indiana that there was no way I could fly my aircraft to her new family.  So, Mirra came home with us for a night. And let me tell ya’ she is a sweet heart and just grateful for even the slightest kindness.

Ooh, yeah, scratch right there....

Ooh, yeah, scratch right there....

So, the next morning, I drove her in the Jeep to meet her new forever mom in Hammond, IN while her new family was also driving to meet us.

The exchange happened in a gas station, and now Mirra is with her new forever family.

Best of luck to you little girl. I hope you have a fantastic life!

Such a happy ending to the story. Thank God there are still compassionate people in the world. Just when I’m starting to lose faith in humanity, I read wonderful stories like this, and realize there is still good in the world. God Bless!
