Moving 85 Dogs, Cats and Kittens
This transport ended up as a combined air/ground move as Jeff Bennett’s aircraft was still in its annual inspection and was not ready to fly on Wednesday. As a result, he loaded up his cargo van and drove from the Florida Keys to Tallahassee (Quincy, FL) to make the transfer with both the Alabama Rescue Relay (Rebecca) and pilot Todd Brooks. Todd flew down from Huntsville, AL with 18 pups and Rebecca drove down from the Montgomery, AL area with 67 dogs, cats and puppies, including one large but skinny Great Dane named Chloe.
It took 2 hours to get this large group loaded but it all went well. Chloe took the co-pilot seat and occasionally wanted to see what things looked like from the drivers point of view but eventually curled up and slept most of the way.
The first stop was in Wildwood, FL where the 22 Tampa dogs met their rescues (Suncoast Animal League and Ewinity Farms). The next stop was in Orlando where 22 more departed to rescue (A New Beginning, Nikki and The Dog Liberator). The final delivery was in West Palm Beach to Ruth (A Second Chance for Puppies and Kittens) where the final group was delivered.
Jeff says, “It was an enjoyable three day trip covering over 1300 miles and saving 85 dogs, cats and kittens.”
