April Gooch and Donna Johnson, both of Chesterfield County, play with a few of the 34 dogs they were sending to new homes as the third annual Pilots N Paws rescue flights took off from Florence Regional Airport on September 17, 2011. The trip involved more than 30 volunteer pilots and transported nearly 200 dogs to new homes across the country. Held in memory of the “Chesterfield 22”, the 22 dogs found shot to death at the Chesterfield County Animal shelter in March, Pilots N Paws has transported thousands of dogs since its inception in 2008.

  1. Kathy Kay says:

We adopted Journey who had been terribly
abused by his previous owner. He was in
bad shape when the rescue group found him.
He had 1 broken front leg on the right side
and 1 broken rear leg on the left side. His
owner had taken him for a walk on a riding lawnmower! He now has his forever home and his ordeal inspired a friend to adopt a pet.
Our friend Steve adopted Olive and has been
a rescue pilot for PilotsNPaws ever since!
