Regular Cross Country – CA to NJ

The idea of regular cross country came to my head after we completed our first cross country and delivered one husky to his rescue and three cats to their new owners. I asked all the pilots who participated in that transport if they thought it was a good idea and everybody said it was! So our bimonthly project was born in March 2015. Next transports were in May (2 huskies and a dachshund), July (Lhasa Apso and two mixed breed pups), September (husky, papillion mix pups, and three cats) and November (husky and corgi). I advertise it on “Space on planned flights” board and people frequently contact me even between transports asking for help. When the date of transport is getting close and we still have room, I look through the ride board and offer space to others in need – not everybody knows to look through other boards.

I met Monica through PnP before my first cross country and we’ve been helping each other ever since, so I always count on one husky from her for every cross country. The rest of the space is filled through the ride board and “Space board.”

Frankie’s story as I got it from Monica: He was euthanasia listed at 2 years old and was pulled by All Paws K9 Rescue for Husky House in NJ on the last day before being killed. They had him for 3 weeks until our transport.

Penny was rescued from Craigslist, per Darlene (her new mom). The woman who had her only had her for 2 yrs. Penny was unable to walk starting January. Her family didn’t want to take care of her and posted on Craigslist… All I can say is that, judging by the size of the tote that was sent with her, now Penny will be spoiled rotten. And Darlene is going to do whole nine yards of tests and see neurologist. I also suggested acupuncture – I saw some amazing results after it!

As for the pilots who participate, when I start planning I usually ask original pilots about their availability and fill in missing legs. During our last transport, Robert, P.J., Cary and Bill were from original team but only Robert and Bill participated in 5 of 5 transports. Looks like Rya is now our regular first leg because Jason who used to fly it, moved from Long Beach to San Diego.
