San Luis Obispo to Laguna Niguel for One Cocker Spaniel!

The forum post stated: This little cocker spaniel fella has been in boarding awaiting a forever home and we have a foster home offer in Laguna Niguel. It would be so great for this guy to get this opportunity and at least be in a foster home. Al stepped up and make the flight from San Luis Obispo for  Camp Cocker Rescue.

Cathy Stanley, the rescue’s founder, sent the following: We had the pleasure to meet one of your newest volunteer pilots today, Al, who is based in Torrance, CA.

He flew to San Luis Obispo with his friend Greg as the co-pilot. They transported our rescue dog Ashton to a foster home that was waiting for him in southern CA.

This was Al’s third transport and the fourth dog he has transported (his plane is really small). He is so excited to be doing this and was telling other pilots at the airport that they should sign up as well, that it is a lot of fun.

Al had some stickers printed up and he gave some to me to pass out to other pilots when they do a transport for us. He is such a cool guy. He had this idea that for every flight he does for a rescue animal, he is putting a sticker on his plane, sort of like a badge of honor. He handed me a few stickers and instructed me that they were sacred, that I am only allowed to give one to a pilot for every time they transport one of our dogs.

Ashton puts a sticker on Al's plane 9-06-14

How cool is that? I thought you might enjoy hearing this story and maybe you might want to get in touch with Al and see if his idea is something you’d like to spread to all of your rescue partners.

I know the pilots do this because they want to, but it does not escape me the expense they are spending on fuel and their time. I always show up at the airport with our rescue group t-shirts to give to the pilots and that is the small way that we give back as a rescue group to say thanks.

But Al’s idea of the stickers, that is really cool!

Thank you for creating such a great online forum where us rescuers can meet volunteer pilots!
